The book of the ancient Maya: “Beings of other worlds have created the human being”

The book of the ancient Maya, of great historical and spiritual value, has been wrongly called the Holy Book or the “K’iche” Bible. It is composed of a series of stories that try to explain the origin of the world, of civilization, of various phenomena occurring in nature, etc.

These beings who created humanity are mentioned in the Popol Vuh, as “the Creator, the Ancient, the Dominant, the Feathered Serpent (Quetzalcóatl)” – (” they ” that generate) – “They” that give existence, hovering on the water like a light at dawn.

What does it mean? initially it was thought that the Mayan ancestors referred to “They” when they tried to talk about the Gods, the demigods, ” the creators of humanity “. It is interesting to note that the ancestors talk about how everything was born and through these lines of the Popol Vuh we can clearly appreciate the presumed influence that “They” had in the creation of “man”.

During the reading of the first chapter of the book we find the following: “They were hidden under green and blue feathers, for this they are called Gucumatz (Feathered Serpent). From great sages, from great thinkers, it is their nature. In this way there was heaven and also the Heart of Heaven, which is the name of God. This is how they counted. Then came the word, joined with Tepeu (the Dominator) and Gucumatz (the Feathered Serpent), in the darkness of the night, and talked among themselves Tepeu and Gucumatz. They talked, therefore, consulting each other and meditating; they have agreed, put together their words and their thoughts.

So, as they meditated, it was clearly stated that at sunrise, man should appear. So they organized the creation and growth of trees and vines and the birth of life and the creation of man. It was organized in the darkness and in the night by the Heart of Heaven, which is called Hurricane. The first is called Caculhá Huracán (El Relámpago). The second is Chipi-Caculhá (The Light in the Furrow). The third is Raxa-Caculhá (El Rayo que Golpea or lightning). And these three are the heart of heaven. ”

It is interesting to note that not only the Creator, the Ancient, the Dominant, the Man CREATED by the Feathered Serpent, created all the rest: “Then the earth was created by them. This is how the creation of the earth was created. Land! They said, and instantly it was done. Like the fog, like the cloud and like a cloud of dust, it was creation, when the mountains emerged from the water; and immediately the mountains grew. Only for a prodigy, only by magic art was the formation of mountains and valleys; and immediately the cypresses and pines sprouted on the surface. And so Gugumatz was filled with joy, saying: “Your coming was good, Heart of Heaven; you, the hurricane and you, Chípi-Caculhá, Raxa-Caculhá! Our work, our creation will be over, they answered “.

“The earth was therefore covered by various forms of animal life. The Creator and the Ancient say to the animals: say, then, our names, praise them, but the animals could not speak like a man! So the authors said: “Our glory is not yet perfect, because you can not invoke us. You will have burrows and food, but as far as your flesh is concerned, it will be eaten. This is your destiny. “The old text speaks several times” they “tried to create the man? It seems that these beings failed at the beginning, and in the “sky” “they sat down and thought about it again. Can you literally sit in paradise? Well, probably, if you’re on a plane or another vehicle … right?

Here is what the ancient texts summarize: “Once again there is an advice in heaven. “Let’s try again, let’s make our vehicles and power supplies.” So the Creators were determined to be a man. From the red earth they have molded their flesh; but when they did, they saw that it was not good. He was incoherent, he had no strength, he was inept, he was aquatic; he had been gifted with words, but he had no intelligence; And then it was consumed in the water without being able to stand up. ”

It seemed as if the Creator, the Old, the Dominant, the Feathered Serpent, “They”, “They” that give existence, had not been satisfied with their creation. “Once again the gods came to counsel. It was decided that man should be made of tzité wood (cork oak) and the woman with zibac marrow (willow); but the result was not satisfactory – they were simply wooden dummies. And these are the people who inhabit the surface of the earth. They existed and multiplied, but they had neither the heart nor the intelligence nor the memory of their creators. They led a useless life and lived like animals. ”

“They were just an attempt by men. Because they did not direct their thoughts to the Heart of Heaven, the face of the earth darkened and a sad rain began to fall. They arrived (therefore) all the animals, big and small (and the men were) beaten in their own faces by sticks and stones. All those who had served them spoke to torment them; even his tools took shape and voice to add to his misery. Then the men ran back and forth in despair. They sought refuge on the roofs, but the houses collapsed beneath them; they tried to climb trees, but the trees threw them down; they tried to enter the caves, but the caves were closed before them. In this way the destruction of these creatures was achieved.

The third part of the Popol Vuh continues the story of creation with the following text:

“Once again the gods came together and the Creator and the Ancient made four perfect men – their flesh was composed entirely of yellow and white corn.” The name of the first was Balam-Quitze; of the second, Balam-Agab; of the third, Mahucutah; of the fourth, Iqi-Balam. ”

Here is the interesting part of the Popol Vuh:

“They had neither father nor mother, nor were they made by ordinary agents in the work of creation, but their coming into being was an extraordinary miracle, caused by the special intervention of the Creator. “Actually, at least, the gods saw beings worthy of their origin.”

As can be seen in the earlier parts of the Popol Vuh, we have detailed descriptions of how beings who were not of the Earth created man: the creator, the old man, the Dominator, the Feathered Serpent, generated them.
